Australian agriculture will rebuild following the devastating start to 2020

I hope this finds you and your family safe and well this New Year.

Regrettably, it has been a devastating start to 2020 for many Australians. On behalf of the AgriFutures Australia Board and our staff, we would like to extend our thoughts, and support to those affected by the fires.

I am mindful that, in addition to the fires, the ongoing drought has impacted many of the industries that AgriFutures Australia works with. I wanted to take this opportunity to reaffirm AgriFutures Australia’s support for your industry and to offer our assistance.

The Honey Bee industry in particular has been hit hard and AgriFutures Australia is supporting the Australian Honey Bee Industry Council (AHBIC) host a recovery roundtable in Canberra.

AgriFutures Australia and AHBIC will be inviting agriculture and environment departmental representatives, forestry and pollination dependent industry representatives, researchers, affected beekeepers as well as state and national bee industry bodies.

The aim of the roundtable is to idenfity and coordinate the recovery response to ensure that government and industry support is well targeted and meets the needs of affected beekeepers. The industry is concerned about loss of floral resources and gaining access to surviving floral resources, in a timely manner. They are also concerned that drought and fires will significantly disrupt their ability to provide important pollination services to broadacre and horticultural industries.

For those needing support with the bushfires, have created a dedicated bushfire support webpage providing the all information and support available.

The bushfire support webpage includes:

  • Government financial help
  • Grants and programs
  • National, state and territory emergency information
  • Employer support
  • Insurance claims
  • Mental health and wellbeing support

The page is updated daily to include updated relevant information including on ministerial announcements on support for business:
