Christmas cheer and a happy new year

A new name, new location, new team and new strategic direction – 2017 has been a huge year for AgriFutures Australia.

As we reflect on our achievements from the last 12 months, planning is well underway for 2018.
Our new Board of Directors met for the first time in December, a number of industry Advisory Panel meetings have wrapped up just in time for Christmas, we’re in the thick of the 2018 AgriFutures™ Rural Women’s Award judging, and are looking forward to delivering on your feedback from the AgriFutures Australia Stakeholder Forum in the year to come.

Diversity in decision-making in rural industries
Compared with other sectors of the Australian economy, primary industries have low levels of diversity within their decision-making ranks. It’s no wonder the traditional image of a farmer entrenched in the Australian psyche is that of an older, white male, when the statistics show that 72% of Australian farmers are in fact men (2011 ABS Census figures).

It’s an image we need to reverse if we are to portray agriculture as a vibrant, innovative and diverse sector. Our latest report focuses on the opportunities and benefits of engaging with a diverse range of decision-makers within a business.
Pearls of wisdom from an AgriFutures™ Horizon Scholar

Farm Table collaboration connecting farmers
Last month AgriFutures Australia Managing Director John Harvey and Research & Innovation Program Manager, Jennifer Medway, joined the Farm Table launch – the new online sidekick for Australian farmers. We’re proud to be a founding partner of the Farm Table, it’s just one way we are supporting emerging leaders in agriculture and building the capacity of farmers across the country. Country to Canberra ‘Power Trip’ inspires future female leaders

This was the leading question for senior rural high school students vying for the Country to Canberra ‘Power Trip’, where winners experienced four days of personal and professional development in the nation’s capital in December 2017.
